Aged Care and Disability Work
Community Services Work
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Community Services Support Work. This qualification offers a broad-based introduction to working within the community services industry.
Workers with this qualification would be able to work in residential facilities and/or in the community under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers provide ancillary services such as catering, cleaning, laundry, gardening and home maintenance.
This qualification provides the opportunity for graduates to work as:

NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate IV in Community Services Work, a qualification for people who are wanting to provide a range of services and interventions to clients, and/or implement health promotion and community interventions. Work may take place in a range of contexts such as community-based organisations, residential rehabilitation services and outreach services.
This qualification defines the knowledge and skills for support workers and case workers who work autonomously under the broad guidance of others.
This qualification provides the opportunity for graduates to work as:

Aged Care Work
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate III in Aged Care Work. This qualification is considered by many aged care providers as the minimum qualification needed for entry into the industry as a personal carer.
Workers with this qualification would be able to work primarily in residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care and/or other activities of living.

Disability Work

Workers with this qualification would be able to work in community and/or residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care and/or other activities of living.
The Certificate III-level qualification provides the opportunity for graduates to work as:

NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate IV in Disability Work, a qualification for those wanting to gain additional responsibilities and/or advocacy roles within the disability industry. These workers may be able to supervise and/or co-ordinate a limited number of lower classified workers.
Workers with this qualification would be able to work in residential group homes, training resource centres, day respite centres and open employment services, other community settings and clients’ homes. These workers apply knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience to provide training and support to people with disabilities to enhance their ability to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance and community participation.

‘Diversional’ Therapy (Lifestyle and Leisure)
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate IV in Community Services (Lifestyle and Leisure), a qualification for those wanting to follow a career pathway into recreational and diversional therapy-related roles within the aged and disability care and the broader community services industry as well as those working in the industry who would like to gain a qualification.
Workers with this qualification would be able to work in residential facilities and/or in community agencies and day centres. Work may be under professional supervision within defined organisational guidelines or as sole practitioners. These workers assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of health and leisure for clients in a range of sector areas.
This qualification provides the opportunity for graduates to work as:

Retail
Retail Operations
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Retail Operations. The Certificate II in Retail Operations has been designed as the standard entry level qualification for the retail industry. It applies to those wishing to develop the skills and knowledge to begin a career in the retail industry. Likely functions within the retail industry for those who achieve this level of qualification include working within clearly defined contexts and under supervision. It involves interacting with customers, performing stock control, operating point of sale equipment, balancing the register and minimising theft.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate III in Retail Operations. The Certificate III in Retail Operations has been designed to develop the skills and knowledge of those employees wishing to enter a more specialised role. Those who are undertaking a more specialised role would be responsible for advanced selling and/or merchandising. (Prerequisites are the core units from Certificate II or sufficient relevant employment experience in the retail industry eg 2 years retail experience)
Retail Supervision
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate III in Retail Supervision. The Certificate III in Retail Supervision has been designed to develop the skills and knowledge of those employees who wish to enter into a supervisory role. Those entering into a supervisory role would be responsible for coordinating/supervising other staff members. (Prerequisites are the core units from Certificate II or sufficient relevant employment experience in the retail industry eg 2 years retail experience)
Cleaning Operations
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Asset Maintenance (Cleaning Operations). This qualification covers training in office, retail, hotel and industrial premises and includes different cleaning techniques, special food handling area cleaning requirements, abattoir cleaning and hotel room cleaning.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate III in Asset Maintenance (Cleaning Operations). This qualification covers training in office, retail, hotel and industrial premises and includes different cleaning techniques (hard floor cleaning, windows, etc), special food handling area cleaning requirements, abattoir cleaning and hotel room cleaning. It may also cover staff training, handling client enquiries/complaints, monitoring infection control policy and steam/dry shampoo cleaning.
Horticulture/Agriculture
Horticulture
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Horticulture. This course introduces students to the horticulture industry and provides skills and knowledge in basic industry practices and procedures. Participants study a wide range of areas including nursery, gardening, landscaping, arboriculture and live works.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate II in Horticulture (Turf), a course that equips students with skills in the establishment and management of grassed areas for sports and recreation.
For those who are ready to work independently, NORTEC Training offers the Certificate III in Horticulture. This qualification is designed for a person seeking work as a horticultural worker who will undertake a range of tasks under limited supervision. Tasks could cover some or all of the various sectors of arboriculture, floriculture, landscape, nursery, parks and gardens, turf management and production horticulture.
For those ready to step into a supervisory role, NORTEC Training offers the Certificate IV in Horticulture. This course provides graduates with skills suited to a variety of occupations at a supervisor level. Employment prospects exist in local government, state government, nursery and turf, floriculture, gardening and the landscape industry.
Agriculture
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Agriculture, a qualification that enables graduates to work effectively in the rural industry in a supervised capacity. Certificate II in Agriculture graduates are able to work on properties or rural enterprises engaged in primary production, such as growing crops and/or feeding and raising livestock. Skills covered include assisting in harvesting activities, maintaining livestock feed and water supplies, mustering, moving and penning up livestock, and/or performing routine farm machinery and equipment maintenance. First aid, effective communication, responding to emergencies and safety in the workplace are also covered.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate III in Agriculture, a qualification that covers the skills and knowledge for the agricultural industry that would enable a graduate to work independently with minimal supervision. Rural Operations
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Rural Operations. This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge to work in the rural operations industry at a junior or entry-level position. Content may include wild game harvesting industry skills, agricultural or horticultural production crop work, prepare for work, support extensive and intensive livestock work, support woolshed operations, support horse work, support basic shearing and crutching, support irrigation work and wild game harvesting.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate III in Rural Operations, a qualification that covers the skills and knowledge for the rural operations industry that would enable a graduate to work independently with minimal supervision.

Management Development and Business
Frontline Management
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management). Recognised as the premier management development qualification available today, this is one of the most sort-after qualifications for any current or potential supervisors and managers.
This qualification helps individuals and organisations enhance frontline management performance. It is intended for Frontline Managers with medium levels of autonomy, independence and scope.
Human Resources and Employment Services
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate IV in Business (Human Resources), a specialist stream of business where graduates are able to fulfil a specialist human resources function with responsibility for complex duties in areas such as recruitment and selection of personnel, administering HR systems and coordinating HR services. Some general or common areas are also included.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate IV in Business (Employment Services), a qualification covering general business and people management as well as skills specific to employment services such as developing business ideas to attract candidates, provision of service to candidates and conducting recruitment campaigns on behalf of employer clients.

The Certificate II in Business enables graduates to become a contributing member of a work team through undertaking broad based training that may be customised to the specific needs of the workplace. The training concentrates on planning work activities, communicating with clients and colleagues, observing safety requirements and beginner-level use of office technology.
The Certificate III in Business is broad based training that may be customized to the specific needs of the workplace. The training concentrates on planning work activities, and higher level internal and external communication, documentation and reporting, as well as observing safety requirements and use of office technology.
The Certificate III in Business Administration is a specialist stream in business administration where graduates are able to undertake such duties such as producing text from notes or shorthand, databases and presentations, undertaking scheduling and basic accounts. Some general or common areas are also included.
The Certificate IV in Business is broad-based training that may be customised to the specific needs of the workplace. The training concentrates on developing and leading work teams, higher level internal and external communication, documentation and reporting, as well as observing safety requirements and use of office technology.
The Certificate IV in Business Administration is a specialist stream in business administration where graduates would have responsibility for complex duties in areas such as producing text from notes or shorthand, databases and presentations, organising scheduling, administering projects or preparing financial reports. Some general or common areas are also included.

Information Technology
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate II in Information Technology. This qualification provides fundamental ICT skills and knowledge. Core training covers design of organisational documents using computer packages, operating computer hardware and computing packages, integrating commercial computing packages and using computer operating systems.
Volunteer Management
Building upon the knowledge and experience of working alongside the Tweed Shire’s only volunteer referral service, NORTEC Volunteering, NORTEC Training provides nationally-accredited training in volunteer management.
Specific training in volunteer management covers the following topics:

As well as specific volunteer management units, NORTEC Training offers the full Certificate IV in Community Recreation qualification. This qualification is appropriate for those undertaking complex and non-routine work, problem solving, planning and supervising others. Jobs covered may include recreation officer, instructor in charge, duty manager of a specific area of a recreation facility, coordinator of Vacation Care/Holiday Programs and supervisor of a team of activity specific instructors (eg Learn to Swim programs).
Property/Real Estate
NORTEC Training offers the Certificate III in Property (Real Estate). This qualification is appropriate for general real estate work under limited supervision. Training may include customer relations, marketing, assisting in property presentation, inspection and sale and administrative tasks.
NORTEC Training also offers the Certificate IV in Property (Real Estate). This qualification is designed to reflect the role of employees who work relatively autonomously and may coordinate and supervise others in the role of a real estate manager or senior property manager. Skills include customer relations, marketing, coordinating property evaluation, presentation, inspection and sale (including documentation preparation), administering property leasing and provision of property and strata management services.
In addition, NORTEC Training offers the Certificate IV in Property (Stock and Station Agency). This qualification is designed to reflect the role of employees who work relatively autonomously and may coordinate and supervise others in the role. Core work may include administering agency activities, customer relations, marketing, managing leases for rural properties, conducting sales and administrative tasks.
